It is hard to believe that 3 years ago today I released my first novel, The Mistreatment of Zora Langston. It was the first step towards living my dream of becoming a published author. I would like to thank all of those who have supports me in my endeavor and welcome future readers. If you haven’t had a chance to read my debut novel, you can download your e-book copy today for only 99 cents! Click Here!
A lot of people mistake this book as a children’s book, but please don’t be fooled by the cover. It is NOT for children. I have marketed it as a young adult novel and I would not advise anyone under the age of 13 reading it. It is told from the perspective of a nine year old girl who has suffered sexual assault and physical abuse. Here’s more about the story:
Zora Langston is nine years old when her father dies, leaving her in the hands of a mother who is anything but loving and siblings who never considered her family. Without her father, she is truly alone. Before the dirt has even settled on his grave, there’s a new man of the house, and he has no interest in being Zora’s father. Despite her hardships, Zora remains true and allows faith to help free her from this new, horrible life she’s found herself in. She finds solace in her aunt and uncle and, for the first time, starts to discover what it’s like to have a real family. However, just when she thinks she has escaped her tormentors, new abusers emerge, old ones return from hiding and she must find the strength to survive.
I loved this character so much and she still lives in my heart. So much so that I am happy to announce that I have started developing the sequel to this book. The book is tentatively titled Cupcakes, Champagne and Butterflies and should be available this summer!
In the meantime, get to know Zora again by re-reading her story or discover her by reading her for the first time. If you would like to purchase an autographed copy, I have a limited number available. I will be selling them as an anniversary special of $7(Included s&h) until the release of the sequel or they run out, which ever happens first. Welcome to another edition of Melanade, where we feature women of color who are doing great things! This month we are featuring the artistic genius
Singer, songwriter, mother, actress and fashion icon… all of these describe the artist known as Solange Knowles. When your name means “Angel of the sun” you are destined for greatness. This woman has a very eclectic mind that is able to translate the weary ways of the world into a beautiful tapestry of melodies and words. Quickly becoming a voice of her generation, Solo had taken her talent to new heights with her latest project “A Seat at the Table”. She won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance for “Cranes in the Sky” from the same album.
It can’t be easy carving out your own niche in the music industry when your big sis is slaying, but Solange makes it look easy. It reminds me of Janet breaking into her own star, being the little sis of the King of Pop. And just like Janet, Solange’s talent in undeniable and cannot be contained.
For a 30 year old, Solange has accomplished many goals that people twice her age have yet to do. Becoming a mother as a teen, she started her responsible years early, but she has handled her life amazingly. Not only does she write the amazing songs on her own albums, she is an accomplished writer for other artists as well. According to an interview with NecoleBitchie.com, she has written quite a few songs with Mariah Carey in mind and would love to have her sing her creations.
She’s had an undeniable influence on our culture from fashion, to being a proud black woman dawning her natural hair, and artistic movement. Don’t believe me? Listen to what intellectual Kimberly Foster has to say about her.
If you are not up on Solange, I urge you to get to know her. You’ll thank me later.

Q & A:
What do you do and Why do you do it?
I love writing, reciting poetry, telling stories, and being an actor. These are gifts from God. I would be foolish and insulting if I didn’t utilize them to the fullest.
Tell us about your most recent work.
Angelica’s Box The Evolving is the continuing and raising of a previous bar set by its predecessor, Angelica’s Box. It is not only an ode to women, a narrative of the authors’ interactions with them, but also a commentary on the times. It has the length and feel of a novella but written in some rhyming verse and colorful depictions.
Who inspires you?
My family, winners, and legends such as Langston Hughes, John Cena, 50 Cent, Kanye West, Miles Livingston, Batman, and plenty of others
What do you consider your “Masterpiece” at this time?
That’s a great question. Angelica’s Box(The first one) is the book I would consider my masterpiece. It was brilliantly written
What is your motto in life?
Go get it!!!
Name your wildest dream. The one you can not imagine achieving, but would love for it to come true.
I want to be a villain in a superhero movie. That would be the ultimate!!!
What is your favorite quote?
WOOO!!!! It’s the phrase Ric Flair once used.
When it is all said and done, what would you like to be remembered for?
I’d like to be remembered as someone who gave it everything he had in everything he did.
Tell us about your next project and when will it be available to the public?
A Cruel Summer is the follow up to my first novel “The Warmest Winter”. It will arrive some time in June 2017.
Ok so our world is going crazy with hate and discrimination. We all need to take a break and have fun for a minute or two and Missy Elliot is just the artist to provide this distraction. Here is her latest creation “I’m Better”. I hope you take a couple of minutes to enjoy this visual masterpiece and while you’re at it shake that thang for a couple of secs too. I won’t tell anybody 😉
