Hi Lovies.

It is December, the final month of the year! I don’t know about you, but for me 2015 flew by? It seems like yesterday I was creating this challenge and now I am just about ready to review the year.  For the month of November I was focused on the LOVE of Nostalgia. This month the quotes for my Words Crush Wednesday Challenge were specifically selected to reflect this theme. I also had a great time reminiscing days gone by with my choice of music selected for my Friday Happy Dance feature. In addition to the aforementioned activities, I also wrote two poems in honor of Veteran’s Day so that we can all remember the sacrifices the heroes and sheroes of the armed forces make for us.

ONE WORD CHALLENGE – September UPDATE 10/2

Standard

love (1)

Hi Lovies!

It is October and the year is almost over. For the month of September I was focused on the LOVE of Self Improvement. I stuck to this theme for the month for my life, however my activities were not documented via my blog. I chose to use the time to research my new fascination with Romance Novels of the Erotic Genre. I have been a reading fool and have found new styles of writing as well as phrases and word choices that are relevant in these types of books. My research has allowed me to develop several notes and outlines for novels I want to write.

One Word Challenge – August Update 9/3

Standard

love (1)

Hi Lovies!

It is the third of September and it’s time for another update on LOVE! The month of August I concentrated on the Love of trying Something New and I had a blast.

First and foremost I would like to thank the wonderful bloggers who participated in my “Something New” Guest blog feature. I have never had anyone guest blog on Rebirthoflisa and I must say it was a great experience. I simply reached out to some great writers and they came through for me. Please know you all had very enlightening post and challenged us all to think a little. Smootches to Gravity, Twyla, EC, Audrey, Dee, Kev, Tinzley, Josie, Erika and Colleen! You all hold special places in my heart.

Try Something New Today!

In addition to the guest blog feature I also used my Words Crush Wednesday Challenge to feature quotes centered around something new.

While celebrating Michael Jackson’s birthday is not new for me, I did feature it on my blog this year and celebrated with not only music videos, but also games, interviews and live performances.

During the month of August I also developed a quiz for my debut novel, The Mistreatment of Zora Langston and from the feedback I received it was a fun, new adventure.

ONE WORD CHALLENGE – JULY UPDATE 8/6

Standard

love (1)

Hi Lovies,

It’s AUGUST!!! Can you believe it? My birthday month went by so fast I barely had time to catch my breath. July was full of LOVE for me as I celebrated my born day on the 19th. I also found a new LOVE for Romantica(Romance and Erotica) Books and was inspired to write my own series. I am happy to say Book 1 is written and I am currently working on re-writing it before sending off to be edited. I fell in LOVE with my characters and can’t wait for you to meet them, so stay tuned. That being said, I was so absorbed with my writing I had little time for anything else. Yes, I know I am supposed to be able to multi-task, but I was tackling a new genre and wanted to really focus. Here are some things I was able to accomplish in the month of July:

july7

  • The quotes for my Words Crush Wednesday Challenge were all quotes that I love and/or quotes that represent me to help celebrate the LOVE of birthdays, mine in particular.
  • The Friday Happy Dance featured several artists that I LOVE and enjoy. I even added a weekend edition to feature Janet Jackson’s new single “No Sleeep” – She is my fave!
  • I conducted an interview for my Couch Convos series with Author Twyla Turner who was my inspiration to write my new series. I read her 3 book Damaged Souls series “Scarred, Open Wounds and Healed” a few times in July because I absolutely LOVE Sloan and Lexi. If you like Romantica please do yourself a favor and buy this series.
  • July was also SHARK WEEK! As you may know I absolutely LOVE sharks. I had a little fun with 7 Fun Facts about sharks and I also posted pics of me when I visited the Megalodon Exhibit at the MOSH in Jacksonville, FL.
  • What I didn’t do, but meant to was share what I received for a birthday gift from the LOVE of my life. I asked for a new tattoo and I got it. I will write a separate post with pics and a review of the shop later.

Here are a few of the updates I received for last few months. It is never too late to join the challenge. Please be sure to ping back to this post so everyone in the challenge can read your update and be inspired & encouraged. Don’t forget to use the tag #RebirthOWC.

ONE WORD CHALLENGE – JUNE UPDATE 7/2

Standard

love (1)

Hi Lovies,

It’s July and I am super duper excited! (Yes, I said Super Duper) This is my favorite month of the year. I mean what’s not to like: The weather is great, the beach is hoppin’, it’s national ice cream month, oh and the best part – July is my BIRTHDAY MONTH!!!! Before I get too wrapped up with my birthday, let me review the happenings for June where I focused on the LOVE of people who made a difference in black music in honor of Black Music Month. Let’s see where do I start?

  • The quotes chosen for my Words Crush Wednesday Challenge for June were from musicians who changed the game in Black Music: Lauryn Hill, Lou Rawls and Janet Jackson are iconic figures in the music industry. I chose to include Eric Benet with this group because his song is special to my husband and me.
  • Three of the four weekends, I hosted event music themed events focusing on Black Music: My 80s Party featured black artists who ruled the 80s , My Love and Basketball Extravaganza celebrated the 15th year anniversary of the movie through songs from the movie’s soundtrack, and the final weekend featured The Jackson Family. You can’t celebrate Black Music without honoring the First Family of American Music.
  • Since June was also the month in which Michael Jackson passed away, I honored his memory on the 25th with a story using the names of some of my favorite MJ songs.
  • The Friday Happy Dances included music from game changers like, LL Cool J, BB King & Etta James, newcomer Tish Hyman and the one and only Otis Redding.

  • The quotes I chose for my Words Crush Wednesday Challenge all dealt with Mental Health

  • I conducted an interview with my neice who was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The interview was very personal and explains what it is like to be diagnosed.

One Word Challenge – April Update 5/7

Standard

love (1)

Hi Everyone,

Wow, where did the month of April go? I blinked and we were celebrating Cinco de Mayo. Well, since it’s the first Thursday of the month, it is time to update for the One Word Challenge! At this point it is easy to give up and stop following you plan for the year. For those of you who may be wavering I want to ask you to please dig deep and hold on. Keep doing your personal challenges and stick with it. This is for your good and to help you succeed. Don’t give up now.

For anyone looking to join the challenge, you can read about it here. Feel free to join in at any time. There is open enrollment throughout the year because it is never too late to get started! Remember there are NO rules in this so feel free to make up your own as you go.

Now comes the time for me to update you all on what I did in April to stay true to my word choice: LOVE. Each month I decided to choose a theme to make things easier for myself. My chosen theme for April was the “LOVE of Poetry” in honor of National Poetry Month. Here’s what I accomplished:

POETRY! (2)

  • I created a weekly challenge called “Rebirthoflisa Love Poem Challenge” where every Friday during April, I posted an original Love Poem written with my husband in mind. I had one consistent participant during the challenge: Pearls Before Swine. Thanks for your entries, they were great.
  • I chose entries for my Friday Happy dance that I consider poetic.
  • The quotes from noted poets for my Words Crush Wednesday and Silver Threading’s Writer’s Quote Wednesday challenges.
  • I made a conscious effort to seek out blogs that feature poetry and follow the one’s I liked. I read poetry, liked, shared and commented on their posts. I enjoyed this task because I ran across some very creative people who are good at poetry.
  • April also marked a milestone for my favorite poet, Dr. Maya Angelou. She received the honor of having a postage stamp with her likeness released. I honored her by writing a post about the honor and by purchasing the program from the release ceremony.
  • I discovered my voice for poetry and began recording myself reading some of my poems. Poetry is so much better when read aloud and I enjoyed recording and sharing some poems with my audience.

The month of May is National Mental Health Awareness Month and I plan to honor that by showing a LOVE for those who suffer from mental illness.

Here are a few of the updates I received from last month. Remember, when you write your updates, be sure to ping back to THIS article so everyone can see what you’ve been up to in order to honor your word. Don’t forget to tag your post #RebirthOWC.

• Each week during March I chose to quote iconic women during my Words Crush Wednesday Challenge – Alice Walker, Zora Neale Hurston, Coretta Scott King, and Selena.
• The Friday Happy Dance, during the month of March, featured the following ladies – Che’Nelle, Janelle Monae, Elle King, and Lion Babe.
• March is my mom’s birth month so this provided an opportunity to honor her with my post “Roses for Mama”
• I wrote a guest post for Silver Lining Mama’s She-logy feature with my post “Joan Pat Tamika”
• I participated in the Black Woman Heal Day (Technically in April, but it took place before this post)
• I Released my debut novel, who has a strong female as the protagonist
• Re-kindled relationships with a good sister friend and my real big sister

PUB QUIZ

In addition to these things I also joined a few women’s groups and supported my fellow female bloggers and writers by reading, buying and sharing their work. Since it is National Poetry Month, I will focus on my LOVE of Poetry for April.
Here are a few of the updates I received from last month. Remember, when you write your updates, be sure to ping back to THIS article so everyone can see what you’ve been up to in order to honor your word. Don’t forget to tag your post #RebirthOWC.

2015 One Word Challenge – February Update 3/5

Standard

love (1)

Hello Everyone,

Since today is the first Thursday of the month, it’s time for us to update each other on how our challenge has been going. I want to extend a big welcome to all those new to the challenge! I have received some great feedback from you all and have seen some very interesting posts. You guys are great and I thank you for the participation.

Now it’s time to update you all on what I did in the month of February to honor my word choice: LOVE. As you may have read in last month’s update, I decided to have a theme for each month just to make it a little more fun and challenging for myself. You all are welcome to do the same if you choose to. Please know this, no matter what you choose to do, or how little or big, it is all up to you. There are NO rules! February’s theme was History. And here’s what I did to honor my “Love of History”:

love history

• For the entire month I focused my #WCW quotes on the sayings of great historical figures like Martin Luther King Jr., Marcus Garvey, William Shakespeare, and Jimi Hendrix
• I posted quotes by the great Maya Angelou about love and life
• Honor was given to Dean Smith, a legend in college basketball history
• To celebrate her birthday and quench my curiosity, I attended the ZORA! Fest honoring the life and legacy of writer, Zora Neale Hurston
• I created a “Book Hunt” challenge to bring focus to the books we read previously
• Featured an article about “The Book of Negros” and watched the mini-series
• Reflected on my wedding by posting Maya Angelou’s poem “A Conceit” – I created handwritten bookmarks as favors for my guests using this poem

This is a majority of things I completed with this challenge in mind. I love to reflect on days gone by to review the things I have done right and remember what I did wrong so I can be sure to correct the mistakes. Reflection is a great thing to do, but we must remember not to stay in the past too long.
For the Month of March, I have chosen to focus on the “Love of Women” in honor of National Women’s History Month.

Here are a few of the pingbacks I received since the last post. When you write your posts, be sure to pingback to this article so everyone can see what you’ve been doing to honor your word.
