31 Day Movie Challenge – Day 9

Standard

2014

Today’s prompt for my 31 Day Movie Challenge is

“Top 5 Romantic Comedies” .

Well once again I couldn’t narrow my choices down to just 5 so here are my top 7. *NOTE* There are several movies that are listed as Rom/Coms that I do not consider comedies like Best Man Holiday, Love & Basketball etc so I did not include them on this list.

7) What Women Want

what_women_want

This classic is made for both men and women to enjoy. It stars Mel Gibson as the quintessential male chauvinist who sleeps around with lots of women and thinks he is a God. However when he accidentally electrocutes himself after losing his promotion to a woman, he wakes up with a gift… the ability to read women’s minds. I don’t know about you, but if I ever had a super power, this would be it.(Not just women’s minds, but everyone’s ) Long story short, Gibson’s character falls in love with his new boss played by Helen Hunt, becomes a better father to his teenage daughter and finds himself in the process.

6) 13 Going on 30

13-going-on-30

Have you ever wanted a do over? A chance to go back and make things right? Well that is exactly what Ginna Rink(Jennifer Gardner) gets in 13 Going on 30. She makes a wish on her 13th birthday to be 30 Flirty and Thriving, meaning she wanted to be older and living life on her own terms. She gets her wish when she wakes as a 30 year old magazine editor in her own luxury apartment with a naked man in the shower and a closet full of designer clothes. Ginna finds that she has gotten everything she ever wanted in life, but it turns out she was a horrible person who cut off her best friend Matt(Mark Ruffalo) and her parents. She goes through a life change that brings her back to her friend, who she loves only to find he is getting married. She ends up making another wish with the magic glitter and this time when she awakes she is married to Matt, happy and in love. It is a cute movie that has the main character in a grown woman’s body with the mind of a 13 year old. Plus I can’t resist a movie that has a group of people doing the infamous Michael Jackson ‘Thriller’ Dance.

5) Shallow Hal

shallow hal

This one stars Jack Black as a delusional man who thinks he can get all the pretty ladies even though he is short, chubby, not that cute and shallow. His side kick Mauricio (Jason Alexander) and he troll the clubs hitting on women who are way out of their league thinking they are studs. A chance meeting with Tony Robbins in an elevator provides Hal an opportunity to escape his shallow existence when Robbins hypnotizes him into seeing only the ‘inner beauty’ in women. As a result Hal meets the girl of his dreams(Gwyneth Paltrow) ans sees her as the most beautiful girl in the world. The rest of the world, however sees her as an overweight girl that Hal would never have given the time of day before is gift.  It is a funny movie with a great message. Inner Beauty rules.

4)10 Things I Hate About You

10thingsihateaboutyou

This movie stars Julia Stiles as Kat an angry feminist teenager who has sworn off dating boys after being mistreated by the most popular jerk in school, Joey. Her little sister Bianca is desperate to date, but her father is insistent that she can only date if her older sister does. The father thinks it is a sure bet his girls will never date because Kat is so angry. However, a new boy in school falls for Bianca and develops a plan to pay the most feared guy in school(Heath Ledger) to date Kat so he can take out her sister. The plan works at first, then backfires when Joey interferes.

3) Pretty Woman

Pretty_Woman

This one needs no explanation. Julia Roberts and Richard Gere make movie history this classic. It was the first time I remember a prostitute being cool in a movie.  Everyone was cheering for Vivian to get the man.

2) Boomerang

boomerang

Another Eddie Murphy creation makes my list. This one stars Murphy along with Martin Lawrence, David Alan Grier, Halle Berry and Robin Givens. It also is the movie that gave Toni Braxton a huge break in her then budding career with her song Love Should Have Brought You Home as the center piece of the soundtrack. Murphy stars as Marcus an ad executive who is a ladies man. He falls hard for his new boss Jacqueline(Givens) who makes mush out of this playboy leaving his friend Angela(Berry) to pick up the pieces. The begin a relationship only for Marcus to break her heart by going back to Jacqueline. In the end he realizes that he really loves Angela and fights to get her back. The iconic Grace Jones makes an appearance as Super Model Strangé.

1)Legally Blonde

legallyblonde

A tale of sorority president Elle Woods(Reese Witherspoon), a college student whose boyfriend Warner breaks up with her because she is not ‘serious’. He goes to Harvard to pursue a law degree and Elle decides she is going there too to prove to Warner she can be serious. She takes the LSATS and is accepted to Harvard who is looking for ‘diversity’. Apparently, blonde bombshell are scarce in Boston. During her tenor at Harvard Elle is mistreated by her fellow students because they think she is stupid. On her first day at Harvard she finds Warner is engaged to Vivian, a horrible preppy girl who gets her kicked out of her first class. Vivian is wearing the 10 carat Harry Winston ring that Warner’s grandmother gave him. Elle goes on a quest to ‘steal the bastard back’ and in doing so finds that not only is she more than just a hot piece of ass, she is smart and a good law student.

Alright Lovies, it’s your turn… what are some of your faves? Comment and let me know. I’m gone, but will see you tomorrow and remember…IMG_5992-0
