31 Day Movie Challenge – Day 8

Standard

2014

Today’s prompt for my 31 Day Movie Challenge is:

“Top 5 Favorite Action Movies”

Action movies are fun and exhilarating to say the least. There is nothing like watching your favorite action hero running around on screen saving the day, wrecking cars and kicking the crap out of a villain. Usually there is a sequel or three that follows the original; that is if the movie is any good. Here are some of my favorite action movie franchises.

5) The Kill Bill Series

Quentin Tarantino is one of my favorite directors with his no nonsense style and his quirky way of doing things. The Kill Bill movies star Uma Thurman as Beatrix Kiddo aka The Bride, aka Black Mamba. She is the best assassin in The Deadly Vipers ran by Bill.(David Carradine)  All of the assassins are bad ass females named after deadly snakes. There is plenty of blood and guts to go along with some kick ass martial arts and special effects. I can watch both volumes over and over again.

4) Death Proof

Death_Proof

This movie is a cult classic and once again comes from the brilliance of Tarantino and presented by Grindhouse. The story is told in two parts: Part 1 follows a group of friends in Austin, Texas who are getting together to celebrate their friend Jungle Julia’s birthday.  Julia is a radio host who on her morning show put out a challenge to the guys of Austin to try and seduce her friend Butterfly who is in town to help celebrate her special day. The guys are competing to see who would be the first to say an adaptation of a Robert Frost poem in order to earn a lap dance from ‘Butterfly’. Enter Stunt Man Mike played by Kurt Russell, a serial killer who gets off on killing women using his car. He stalks the girls and ends up getting the lap dance, then follows them out of the bar and murders them with his car, making it look like an accident. Part 2 shown mike arriving in Tennessee finding another group of girls to stalk. However, Mike meets his match in these girls who are hard core and end up killing him after  a bad ass chase scene in a Dodge Challenger. Two of the girls are stunt women and have no issue with kicking ass while looking pretty. At the end they kick the living shit out of this guy while he whines and cries. Classic Girl Power with a weird twist.

3) The Bourne Series

Jason Bourne played by Matt Damon is a CIA assassin who suffers memory loss and tries to remember who he is while the CIA is trying to eliminate him. There are three movies in this series that focus on Jason Bourne’s character and how he is able to avoid being killed by escaping all over Europe, a la James Bond only he is running from the CIA. The fourth installment does not include Bourne, but is still centered around his life style. In The Bourne Legacy Aaron Cross played by Jeremy Renner is a government operative trying to stay alive as the government is trying to eliminate everyone in his crew. They are given pills in an experiment to help increase their mental and physical abilities, but then without their knowledge the government changes the medicine and kills them all. Everyone except Cross who discovers the scheme, saves a scientist who works in the lab that created the medicine. It is action packed and full of twists and turns that have you on the edge of your seat.  Good news is Matt Damon has returned to his role as Jason Bourne and the next installment will be out later this year.

2) James Bond 007 Series

007

The Bond Series are incredibly rewarding. Each one is filled with action, humor, sex and martinis shaken, not stirred.  There have been seven actors who portrayed the action hero, but I can’t chose my favorite. Right now it is Daniel Craig, but that is just because he is the current Bond. My least favorite is George Lazenby. Bond always has great action and espionage, not to mention the Bond Girls. I always thought it would be cool to be a Bond Girl because they are usually smart, sexy and can kick ass.

1)Mission Impossible

mission5movies

My favorite action series has to be MI! Tom Cruise was meant to play in these movies. He is the best in the game when it comes to action and great gadgets, not to mention the stunts! Rumor has it he does most of his own stunts and we all know the trademark ‘Tom Cruise Run’. He really goes all out in these movies and each one is better than the last. My favorite in the series are Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation.
