Today’s featured author for the Black Authors I LOVE! event is John W. Blassingame. Dr. Blassingame was a historian and a professor who taught at Yale University in the 1970s. His vast knowledge of African American history allowed him to write the book “The Slave Community: Plantation Life in the Antebellum South”. This book is his explanation of why black people in America act the way they do. It is more of a sociology study in my opinion, that reveals the hangover behavior of blacks after slavery. One of his theories is that we as blacks are conditioned beat our children to keep them in line, much like the slave masters did. His thoughts and theories have some very valid points and if nothing else can be a catalyst of great discussions. Something much needed in the world if we are ever going to move forward in race relations.
